Mark, Demetri, Gough and MI6 agent Fiona Banks investigate a Blue Hand club and its possible connection to some recent suicides. Meanwhile, Aaron receives a surprise visit from a former army buddy of his late daughter's, Demetri comes clean with Zoey about his lack of a flashforward, and Nicole helps Bryce uncover the mystery of his flashforward while volunteering at the hospital.

From the "aren't you glad this is just a TV show" department..."I know what caused the blackouts" is the way to pick up women these days. A stranger on a train (Dominic Monaghan) tries that line with a gorgeous blonde, who doesn't buy it. However, she looks up his information on her smartphone and is suddenly impressed by his credentials. He believes the answer lies in Quantum Mechanics. To illustrate, he talks about Schrodinger's Cat, where until you know whether or not the cat has eaten the poisoned sardine you placed in the box with her, the cat could be considered both alive and dead. This is a fitting metaphor for Olivia as she works to keep Janis Hawk alive from her gunshot wound. Thankfully, she is successful and Janis is alive.

Mark, Demetri, Wedeck, and Vreede are in Washington DC, and Wedeck is not happy with what Mark said earlier in the evening. It would seem Wedeck is the master of damage control lately and had to do some earlier in the evening. However, we do not find out as a large SUV t-bones their car. 4 men of Asian descent get out , one of whom fires a grenade launcher at the car. It explodes.

Several characters face having to deal with their visions. Dr. Olivia Benford tries to arrange for Dylan Simcoe to be transferred to another service thereby hoping to limit her contact with the boy's father, Lloyd. It appears that Lloyd's vision isn't quite as complete as Olivia's was. Nicole Kirby returns and reluctantly reveals her flash forward. Agents Benford and Noh meanwhile try to convince Agent in Charge Stanford Wedeck to let them travel to East Africa to see what they can learn about what may have happened there 10 years previously.

The FBI follow-up when a Nazi war criminal imprisoned in Munich claims to know the cause of the blackout. He also knows Agent Mark Benford by name. Benford and Agent Janis Hawk travel to Munich to interview the man and while he is prepared to share what he knows, he has only one requirement: that he be set free and allowed to return to the United States where he once lived. His information does lead the Agents to realize something very important about the blackout. Having seen his daughter alive in his future vision, Mark's friend Aaron Stark tries to get his ex-wife's agreement to exhume her remains and have further DNA testing to confirm if it's really their daughter. Agent Demetri Noh's fiancée manages to return from Seattle now that flights have been re-instated but he doesn't tell her about his lack of a future vision.

The FBI begin to acquire vital clues about the blackout. The web site they've established leads them to Utah and eventually to the conclusion that there were at at least two people awake during the blackout. Mark Benford is more convinced than ever that his wife Olivia's vision, that she will take up with another man, is inevitable after she meets the man, Lloyd Simcoe, while treating his son at the hospital. Olivia insists that she will never love anyone but him but Mark's attitude may turn the vision into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Demetri Noh gets more information about his own fate. Mark learns some frightening information from his daughter Charlie's about her blackout vision.

On what seems to be a day like any other, everyone on Earth blacks out at the same moment for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. They also have a vision of where they will be or what they are doing some six months into the future, on April 29, 2010. For FBI Agent Mark Benford, the vision is disturbing: he sees himself working on this case, drinking again and with someone at the FBI building out to kill him. Mark's wife, a surgeon, sees herself in a relationship with another man, apparently someone she doesn't know yet. Mark's partner, Agent Demetri Noh has no vision at all and believes that can only mean one thing. As they begin to investigate the phenomena, the FBI come across startling videotape showing that at least one person didn't black out.
